Calvin Klein started his own company in 1968 when the fashion industry in New York was down in the dumps. At first, Klein manufactured simple clothing for suits and coats and slowly increased his line to include sportswear with interchangeable separates. What grabbed the attention of the masses was not his clothes but his scandalous advertisements emphasizing the sex appeal of many products. His obsession with fragrance also was a head-turner.
