1946 was when bicycling was the most common mode of transportation. Soichiro Honda got the idea of using auxiliary power for bicycles when he witnessed the Imperial Army using generator engines for powering wireless radios. After a lot of trial-and-error, he managed to produce and sell auxiliary-engine-powered bicycles. The product was instantly successful, and Honda decided to tap into his creative potential. In 1947, the Honda brand started its journey.
