Toyota
As surprising as it sounds, Toyota originated from Japan’s weaving industry. Sakichi Toyoda was the original inventor of the automatic loom worldwide and, in 1918, set up a company dedicated to spinning and weaving. The loom had caught the attention of a British company, which then purchased the production and sales rights for a vast sum. The proceeds went to Sakichi’s son, who created Toyoda’s first passenger car in 1936. The rest is history.
